Biography

Ryan J. Lambe is an Assistant Professor of Music at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. His recent research is an ethnographic study of performance and emotion in U.S. queer open mics examined through queer and critical race and ethnic studies lenses. Lambe earned his Bachelor of Music Education at Idaho State University before teaching general and vocal music to underserved populations in New Jersey public schools. He then went on to receive his M.A. and Ph.D. in Cross-Cultural Musicology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He teaches music history, theory, world music, and cultural studies using active and inclusive pedagogies derived from queer open mic practices. Lambe’s research interests include amateur and community musics, gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity, cultural studies, critical pedagogies, and popular music. Lambe’s research can be found in American Music and the forthcoming edited collections Popular Music Research Methodologies and Trauma-Informed Pedagogy in the Music Classroom.
